Thank you to all the people that have donated to the WCCC so far We have received donations from several people so far. Some have given hand tools and others have given chainsaws. We are appreciative of all the donations we have received. Thank You. If you are unaware of what has happened, recently Fox News 4 ran a special segment detailing the robbery the WCCC suffered. Seed Collection in Colorado National Monument
The Western Colorado Conservation Corps once again joined the Vegetation Team in the Colorado National Monument to combat invasive species across our park. The WCCC always provides us with valuable helping hands. However, once these species are removed from the landscape, the work is not done. The staff works to help the native plants move back in to a once-invaded area to prevent the invasive species from re-establishing. One way we do that is through native seed collection

Matchett Park Magic
If you haven't heard yet the city of Grand Junction has BIG PLANS for the purposed Matchett park. Working With the City of Grand Junction and The Tamarisk Coalition, the WCCC provided their services clearing invasive Tamarisk and Russian olive from the Indian Wash Drainage that runs through Matchett park. The Oh Be Joyful Campground Managed by the BLM is a popular spot for anybody visiting the area and is becoming even more popular. With increased visits to the area, LNT becomes essential to maintain the campground. So the BLM asked the WCCC to do some work at the Oh Be Joyful campsite, putting in new fire rings where previous campers had devel

Building fence can be hard work. The crew needs to cut a path through the thick underbrush of sage and gamble oak along the park boundary. Then they string a line to ensure the fence will be straight. Many of the tools and materials are carried in by hand. Holes are dug for wood posts and then T posts a

Ice Cream Social!
Today we celebrated the momentous occasion of finishing 10 weeks of work in the Colorado National Monument! The same crew has been working tirelessly in the some times triple digit heat, through the canyons, on the roads, and up and down the switch backs since the beginning of the season. Through rain storms, lightning , and 100+ degree days with no shade the crew worked side by side with Colorado National Monument staff. So on Thursday, July 6 the Colorado National Monument
