Community Garden

Each year The WCCC partners with Kohl's Associate in Action Program.

May 19, 2016, found an enthusiastic group of Kohl’s employees planting the annual garden here at the WCCC. Kohl’s corporate policy is that all employees should give something back to the community in which they live. For the 5th year in a row, Kohl’s sales associates have arrived at our garden beds in early Spring, eager to plant the garden.

This year’s crops include pumpkins, cucumbers, five different varieties of tomatoes, two varieties of bell peppers, Anaheim chilis, chives, oregano and some little yellow peppers that are very, very hot. WCCC corps members tilled Mesa Magic into the raised garden beds starting in early May and by the day of the event, the garden was ready for planting.

Kassie, Elisa, Cindee, Kristen, Andrew, Becca, Rachael and Nicole jumped into action and in no time the garden beds were green with new plants. As the crops ripen, our crews will harvest the vegetables to supplement the food they take with them during their weeks of camping out in beautiful western Colorado. Some of the members take vegetables home on weekends to enjoy.

This has been a great partnership with Kohl’s and we look forward to next year. We really appreciate their help in serving our youth corps!
