S-212 Chainsaw Training: Snow Cutting

It is the start of a new project season for us at the Western Colorado Conservation Corps and crews have completed their training. Our crews cap off their training with a one week U.S. Forest Service S-212 chainsaw operations course. This course consists of two days of classroom instruction followed by two days of in-field practical evaluation, for many corps members these two days are the first time they have used a chainsaw.

This year corps members had to deal with an added challenge; snow.

This year, despite adverse conditions, we certified 17 new sawyers with the help of Mark Murrell of the U.S. Forest Service. Crews are now up and running and putting their new found skill set to use!
